Troop GA-0456 - Guiding generations of courageous young men since 2015
Troop GA-0456 is a completely volunteer led organization. The troop will be as great as we collectively let God use us in the positions to which we have each been called. While the position will take on the personality of the person, here is a summary of the leadership positions, their roles, and responsibilities.
These positions are required by Trail Life USA for an active troop charter
Charter Church Staff Member who oversees the troop and maintains the mission
Active Member of the troop who interfaces with the SML and has the final responsibility for leadership positions and youth protection
Oversees the regular meeting operations including oversight of the Adventurer Advisor, Navigator Trailmaster, and Woodlands Trail Trail Guides. Communicates directly with the Youth First Officer along the "chain of command" to the Youth Second Officer, Quartermaster, and Patrol Leaders. The Troopmaster is often the "up front" leader.
Active member of the troop who oversees the spiritual focus of the troop. This person often has a pastor type of gift set and will actively seek relationships with individuals (both adults and youth). Also assists with Trailmen earning the Worthy Life Award for their specific levels.
Helps the Trailmen to develop a budget for the program year and guides them in funding that budget as well as operating within the budget.
Oversees the overall function of the troop and the various leadership positions. Conducts regular committee meetings with both adult and youth leadership.
These positions answer directly to the Troopmaster and are responsible for overseeing their respective divisions and programs. They are NOT expected to do all of the work but are expected to delegate and build a team of leadership.
Oversees and acts as a coach for the 14-17 year old youth leaders of the troop. Helps them to learn skills, earn badges, and develop as leaders.
Oversees the 11-13 year old youth as they develop leadership abilities. Helps them earn badges, learn skills, and navigate the transition from boyhood to young manhood.
Oversees the Woodlands Trail Program and the Trail Guides for each individual program level of Woodlands Trail. (Mountain Lion ages 9-10, Hawk ages 7-8, and Fox ages 5-6). These are very hands on type of leadership positions making use of the extensive program materials provided by the Trail Life USA system to help these boys to have fun, lean skills, and develop friendships.
These positions are members of the adult committee and answer directly to the Committee Chair. As with all positions, the leader is NOT expected to do all of the work but to lead and empower those around them to accomplish the mission.
"Ensures that the Troop has regular boards of review, regular courts of honor, and is providing opportunity for timely advancement within the Trail Life USA Model. Also responsible for record keeping and submitting advancement reports."
Ideal is to have one for Woodlands Trail and another for Navigators / Adventurers. The Woodlands Trail Advancement Chair will help track these attendance and participation based awards. The Navigator / Adventurer Advancement Chair will encourage the young men in earning both the required and elective badges required to advance in ranks. Both will encourage advanced awards such as Worthy Life, Timberline, Ridgeline, and Freedom Awards.
"Researches and secures permission to use camping sites or other outdoor locations for planned activities. Serves as transportation coordinator and ensures a monthly robust outdoor program for all levels"
Oversees the Hit The Trail and other outdoor events, delegating as needed, to offer engaging items throughout the event for the youth to learn new skills and have fun.
"Coordinates regular recruiting of new members and enacts plans to retain current member families."
"Welcomes new families, connects them with other Trail Life families, and assimilates them into the life of the Troop. Conducts the New Parent's Orientation Meeting within a week of a new families' joining."
"Provides (or educates members about available) training opportunities; maintains training records and materials. Assists leaders in obtaining First Aid and CPR training as required."
"Works with the youth Quartermaster and is responsible for inventory, storage, and maintenance of the equipment."
"Keeps everyone up to date on Trail Life USA's policies and procedures. M maintains current and comprehensive knowledge of Health and Safety Guide and related documents. E ensures activity permissions and notifications are filed with the Charter Organization and Trail Life USA Home Office as required."
"Coordinates regular community service efforts (should include four Troop service projects per year.)"
"Provides news and announcements about the Troop to newspapers, websites, etc. May also be the Troop's webmaster (if desired). Promotes service projects. Promotes new membership and lets people in the town or neighborhood know that Trail Life USA is available."
"Organizes and supervises fundraising events and ensures that every youth member has the opportunity and tools necessary to participate. Coordinates exciting kickoffs, of your one or two focused fundraisers each year."
This is not a position found in the Handbook but all adults are encouraged to pick something and take the lead. If you feel like something needs to be done, often that is God speaking to you about overseeing that it is done.
